12 Foods to Eat Organic

The latest list of foods with the highest pesticide residue includes some familiar fruits and vegetables, and some surprises.  Add these to your list of foods you purchase USDA Certified Organic:
  1. Apples
  2. Celery
  3. Strawberries
  4. Peaches
  5. Spinach
  6. Nectarines
  7. Grapes
  8. Sweet Bell Peppers
  9. Potatoes
  10. Blueberries
  11. Lettuce
  12. Kale & Collard Greens (tied)
Other important things to buy organic include coffee, produce (fruits and veggies with thin skins), especially when you're eating the skin!  For example, we don't typically buy organic avocados since they have such a thick outer covering.

Organic also means that the product does not contain any genetically modified (GMO) ingredients, like soy or corn.

Coffee

Most of the coffee that we purchase is grown in countries with lax regulations for use of pesticides and other chemicals, which is a good reason to purchase Organic coffee.  Our favorite brand is Allegro (the Whole Foods brand) and the Mexican Zaragoza is really delicious!  Not all Allegro coffee is organic so choose wisely.

I summarized the above from data from http://www.ewg.org/foodnews/summary/
